BEST INTEGRATION of INTERIORS > 5225 Maple Avenue > Dallas, TX (2001-2002)

One of the special interests of this urban infill project was the successful integration of the exterior spaces and materials to transition and develope the Interior Design of the dwelling units and leasing center. I assisted BGO's newly developed interiors department in material selection, client meetings, furniture, fixture selections and construction documentation into one colaborative execution.

The design concept was centered around the industrial area of which the project was re-zoned. The design team and development team was inspired by the WPA prints of the 30's depicting industrial images. Industrial details, brick and open flange steel beams were employed on each balcony and openly displayed in the entry tower. Exposed steel structural details followed through into the public spaces, Leasing Center and common use facilities. Brick and glass block were introduced into the entry tower and Leasing Center. Natural anodized storefront windows and standing seam metal cielings were juxtaposed with brightly colored spatulata walls. An industrial printing press theme was injected into the mix, a wall mural by artist, Nic Gaetano, was commissioned and old print Heidelberg print machines from the period were placed on display through out the site.
